WHAT IS POSITIVE YOUTH DEVELOPMENT (PYD)

Positive Youth Development (PYD) is a unique partnership of Westport PTA, Westport Schools, Town of Westport Department of Human Services and Positive Directions. Its mission is to promote the positive development of youth at home, in school and in the community.

PYD Parenting Program

PYD Parenting Program - Positive Youth Development (PYD) is a collaboration of Westport’s Department of Human Services, the Westport Police Department, the Westport Public Schools, the PTA and Positive Directions to meet the emerging needs of families and children in Westport. PYD partners meet regularly with the Westport Public School PYD/Health and Wellness Committee to coordinate school and community programs.

The Teen Awareness Group (TAG)

TAG is a high school student club advised by the Student Outreach Counselor developed to raise awareness and promote healthy decision making among their peers. TAG accepts applications for new members each spring.

Toquet Hall Teen Center

A supervised drug and alcohol-free center for teens, offering a variety of programs and recreational activities for Westport students grades 9 – 12, with specified events for 6-8th graders.

Westport Youth Commission


A partnership of high school youth and adults, appointed by the First Selectman, responsible for promoting public knowledge and understanding of youth issues while promoting timely community responses including topics such as police-youth relations, internet safety & etiquette and other social issues.
