What is ArtSmart?
ArtSmart is a PTA sponsored, parent run program that has a long, positive history in the Westport schools. The goal of the program is to teach students about artists and art forms by using an inquiry based discussion followed by a hands on activity exploring the artistic topic further.
Each class assembles a team of parent volunteers who plan and then lead the discussion and project. The volunteers need not have a background in art, just a little bit of imagination and a lot of enthusiasm! The team is given a set budget as well as access to a large database of past projects and other resources to inspire them. As a result, ArtSmart has had wonderful success over the years.
The program culminates in the spring with Museum Night where each class displays one of their ArtSmart projects from the year, turning the halls of the school into a virtual museum and celebrating the artwork of every student in the school.
