Superintendent's Updates

A visionary leader and innovative thinker, Mr. Thomas Scarice has been the Superintendent of the Westport Public Schools since July 1, 2020. Prior to arriving in Westport, Mr. Scarice was the Superintendent of the Madison Public Schools from March 2012 through July 2020.  Mr. Scarice led a “re-visioning” process upon his arrival that served as the blueprint for all continuous improvement efforts in the Madison Public Schools.  The focus of this work has been to prepare all learners for the challenges of work and citizenship in the 21st century.

Throughout his career, Superintendent Scarice has worked to scan the horizon so that schools work tirelessly to prepare all learners for the challenges of the world they will live in as adults.  In that work, Superintendent Scarice has reached across communities to foster not only the academic development of students, but also the social and emotional capacities of each and every child.  He has partnered with youth and family services, as well as local faith-based communities, to develop programs and broad messages to serve the wider school community.

Mr. Scarice is passionate about child development and protecting the innocence of childhood.  He is always willing to have a conversation with members of the community in the spirit of improvement.   He has studied the current generation of learners before us and works to transform educational practices to meet their needs.  During his tenure in Madison, Mr. Scarice fostered a culture in which learning is joyful, learners are passionate, and educators are seen as innovators in a dynamic pursuit of continuous improvement.

Prior to his tenure in Madison, Mr. Scarice served as the Assistant Superintendent of the Weston Public Schools, and as the Principal of the interdistrict Two Rivers Magnet Middle School.  Mr. Scarice received his master’s degree in educational counseling, and certificate in educational leadership from Southern Connecticut State University.  He earned his bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Connecticut.

The proud father of three children, Ella, Owen, and Gavin, Mr. Scarice and his wife, Kerry, live happily in Madison, CT.
