Anthony Buono is a proven educational leader with over 25 years of experience in public education. Anthony began his career as an elementary school teacher, but also has experience teaching middle and high school.

After spending nearly ten years in the classroom, Anthony formally entered the field of educational leadership as an Assistant Principal in Groton, CT. Two years later, he was appointed as an elementary school principal in Branford, CT. He served in that capacity for nine years until he was encouraged to bring his leadership talent to the district level as the Associate Superintendent of Schools. He served in that role for two years, and was subsequently promoted to the Assistant Superintendent of Schools.

As an undergraduate, Anthony attended the University of Rhode Island and Central Connecticut State University. He enjoyed working with children his entire life, and began his formal career in education in Wallingford, CT in 1992. Shortly into his career, Anthony became interested in school leadership. In 2001 he earned a Master’s in Educational Leadership from Sacred Heart University and earned an advanced degree in Educational Leadership from UCONN in 2008. His formal education culminated in 2012 with a Ph.D. from Lesley University in Cambridge, MA.

In addition to Anthony’s work in prek-12 education, he also teaches graduate courses in school leadership at Southern Connecticut State University, including working with doctoral candidates in the Ed.D. program. He is passionate about educating our countries youth and fostering the continuous improvement of the public school system.

Anthony’s various roles and extensive experience have well prepared him for his newest role and challenge as the Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning for Westport Public Schools.

Three students from Staples High School are participating in the final round of the Connecticut Science & Engineering Fair. To make it to this round, Will Boberski, Tessa Cassell, and Sara De Pinho have competed against hundreds of students in grades 7-12 who reside or are enrolled in schools in Connecticut and some bordering New York towns.
