Music and Visual Arts Coordinator, PreK-12

Stephen Zimmerman is an exceptional leader in the area of arts education. Since 1998 he has served as a music teacher for Northwestern Regional School District No. 7 which serves the towns of Barkhamsted, Colebrook, New Hartford, and Norfolk. In 2007 he assumed the role of Department Chair for this nationally recognized program. Prior to his time in Connecticut, Stephen  served as a music teacher in Lancaster Pennsylvania.

As an avid supporter of the arts for all students, Stephen has been very active in regional and state programs. He has served on the executive board of the Connecticut Music Educators Association, and is the founder and director of the Litchfield County Music festival which brings together urban and suburban students for culturally rich and enlightening experiences for all involved. In 2013 he was named a Yale Distinguished Music Educator, one of 50 educators across the country to receive such an honor. He presents regularly at local and regional conferences, is published as an expert in the field of music education, and serves as an adjudicator and conductor for numerous music festivals. 

Stephen  holds a Bachelor of Science in Music Education from Elizabethtown College and a Masters of Music in Conducting from Southern Oregon University. He has also studied at Central Connecticut State University, the University of Hartford, University of the Arts in Pennsylvania, and holds a Sixth Year Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of Connecticut.
