Literacy Coordinator, PreK-5
In November 2018, Michele Cerino joined the Westport Public Schools as the Literacy Coordinator for Grades PreK-5. She comes to us with extensive experience in urban, suburban, and magnet schools as a teacher, and school administrator. Most recently, she served as the Turnaround Principal of Luis Munoz Marin School, Bridgeport, CT. which Yale University named a flagship RULER school under her leadership.
Prior to her tenure in Bridgeport, Ms. Cerino served as the assistant principal at ACES Wintergreen Interdistrict Magnet School where she led initiatives in mindful schools, arts-infused learning, and integrated curriculum. She taught English/Language Arts and Social Studies in grades 6-8 in New Haven and Milford. Ms. Cerino is a member of the Tri-state Consortium and the Connecticut Reading Association. She is certified in Restorative Practices, Responsive Classroom and Mindful Schools. Ms. Cerino has spoken locally and nationally as an advocate for educating the whole child and for equal access for all students.
Ms. Cerino earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts at Emerson College Boston, MA, with a major in Theater Arts. She went on to study at Southern Connecticut State University earning a Masters of Science in Elementary Education and a sixth year degree in Educational Leadership.
