Superintendent's Update - Emergency Preparedness Drill at BMS on 4/17/2026

Dear Westport Families and Staff,

On behalf of the Aspetuck Health District, I am writing to inform you that on Friday, April 17, 2026, a planned emergency preparedness drill will take place at Bedford Middle School during April recess, when schools are closed.

This drill, conducted in partnership with regional and state agencies, will run from approximately 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. It is part of a coordinated effort to test preparedness plans and strengthen collaboration among local and regional partners in response to a public health emergency scenario.

During this time, the gymnasium will be set up as a point of dispensing site as part of a simulated biohazard response. You may notice increased activity at the school, including the presence of police, fire, EMS, and other emergency vehicles and personnel. Please be assured that this is only a drill. There is no actual emergency and no risk to the public.

Participating agencies include the Westport Police Department, Westport Fire Department, Westport EMS, the Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security, and the Connecticut Department of Public Health. This drill also fulfills federal and state preparedness requirements.

Please note that this drill is not open to the public.

We appreciate your understanding as we carry out this important work to ensure the safety and preparedness of our community.

Sincerely,
Thomas Scarice
Superintendent of Schools
