Coordinator of Psychological Services
Valerie Babich holds a Doctorate and a Masters degree in Child/School Psychology from New York University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Clark University. She also completed a certificate program in Educational Leadership at Sacred Heart University.
During her training, Dr. Babich worked in a variety of school and clinical settings. Dr. Babich formally began her career as a school psychologist in 1992 at The Churchill School in New York City. After working there for six years, she focused solely on her private practice where she worked with children, adolescents, and families. Dr. Babich maintained her private practice and returned to a school setting in 2002, where she worked as a school psychologist at The Gateway School in New York City. In 2005, Dr. Babich and her family relocated to Connecticut, and she began working at the King’s Highway School in Westport. In 2010, she filled the role of Interim Assistant Principal at King’s Highway for the first quarter of the year and then returned to her role as a school psychologist. Dr. Babich moved into her current role as Coordinator of Psychological Services in 2011. She is responsible for supervising Pre-K to 12th grade school psychologists and social workers as well as middle school counselors. Dr. Babich also helps to coordinate the gifted identification process, parent education programs, and professional development. In addition, she serves as our Safe School Climate Coordinator. Dr. Babich is passionate about social-emotional learning and assuring that all students learn to understand and regulate their emotions in order to support their mental health and well-being. One of her proudest accomplishments has been her role in bringing school-based Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) into the Westport Public Schools, and being one of the first school districts in Connecticut to start a comprehensive DBT program.
In her free time, Dr. Babich enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading, and traveling. She also enjoys practicing yoga, bicycle riding, and being outdoors.
