On Monday, October 23, Dr. Yeap Ban Har discussed the philosophy of mathematics instruction in Singapore, current research on student engagement and differentiation, and what it means “to be good at math.” Ban Har has been called “Singapore Math’s Michael Jordan'' and is considered by many the most accomplished trainer and speaker in the subjects of K-5 Mathematics.
Dr. Yeap Ban Har is an educator, teacher trainer, and director of curriculum and professional development at two Singapore schools. For a decade, he was a faculty member at the National Institute of Education in Singapore. Dr. Yeap Ban Har has coached teachers to implement Singapore mathematics in more than 40 countries.
Dr. Yeap Ban Har has provided professional development for elementary and middle school teachers in Westport throughout our implementation of the Singapore Mathematics curriculum and will continue his work with Westport teachers the week of October 23rd.
