October 16: Growth Mindset Community/Parent Workshops

Reach new heights and find greater fulfillment in your education and beyond with Sylvia del Carmen Roberts, Ph.D. of Mindset Works, in partnership with The Westport Library and Westport Public Schools.

In this talk, learn how our beliefs about our abilities shape our lives in important ways, how growth vs. fixed mindsets drive our thinking, behavior, and success; and find out how to put this knowledge into practice to help both you and your children become even more successful.

Dr. Roberts is a speaker and consultant with Mindset Works and the Founder and Senior Researcher at A Learning Brain, where she provides professional learning services and consulting. For over 15 years, she has presented to a variety of audiences on a range of research-based topics, including growth mindsets, social-emotional learning (SEL), and STEM motivation and performance, among others. She consults with organizations on learning how to support SEL within their organization, and on research design and analysis.

In her role as the Director of Research and Implementation at Mindset Works, she provided program and research support to many schools, districts, and organizations across the U.S., and served as Co-Principal Investigator of a large-scale, multi-million dollar randomized-control trial to test the efficacy of the Mindset Works Brainology® program, a blended-learning curriculum that teaches growth mindsets, study strategies, and the understanding that abilities are malleable to middle school students. Published results from the trial showcase some of the largest gains on achievement due to an educational intervention, especially for students from diverse backgrounds.

Dr. Roberts holds a Ph.D. in psychology from Columbia University and a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Princeton University.
