In the never-ending quest to keep students engaged, educators are getting creative with their methods; Natalie Carrignan, WPS Director of Technology, is no exception. In an effort to outline education plans, get students excited, and foster ongoing learning beyond the classroom she collaborated with representatives from her team of teachers last summer to develop and deploy curriculum storyboards for K-2 Information and Technology Literacy (ITL) Courses.
"Storyboarding has really changed how we bring curriculum to life," said Carrignan. "It offers a crisp, simple visual of our curriculum, making it easy for parents and students to grasp the learning path ahead for the year."
Carrignan was inspired to bring this practice of educational storyboarding to the kindergarten first and second grades after seeing Allison Zmuda, Co-Founder of Curriculum Storyboards, present the topic last March at the ACSD global education organization focused on empowering educators to advance and elevate learning to meet the needs of all students equitably and wholly). At the WPS open house on September 24, the ITL department distributed copies of the first storyboards to families. As the units are introduced to the students throughout the year, they will have bookmarks to refer to, reminding them of where they are in their learning journey for the year.
