Westport Public Schools honored Veterans Day on Monday, November 11, 2025, with meaningful programs across the district that brought students, staff, families, and local veterans together. From preschool through high school, students learned about the courage, sacrifice, and service of members of the United States Armed Forces and found age-appropriate ways to express their gratitude.

Daniel Cortright, a Bedford Middle School science teacher and former biochemist, has been named Westport’s 2026 Teacher of the Year. Recognized for making science come alive and inspiring eighth graders, Cortright will represent the district in the state competition later this fall. This Pamela Bellmore Gardner Social Studies Leadership Award recognizes administrators who demonstrate exceptional support for social studies education across elementary, middle, and high school settings. Dr. Francese was selected through a rigorous nomination process that required letters of support from educators and social studies colleagues highlighting her significant contributions to the field.
