Media Literacy

Media literacy skills are critical for civic participation and engagement in our fast paced, digital world. Along with our established research skills progression, we are expanding our instructional strategies to build the skills students need for engaging with news, social, and a range of media now and in the future.

Social Studies teachers have been reading, Verified, and engaging in professional learning and discussion about the book.

Our district also subscribes to Newsela, which offers media literacy resources for our classrooms using adaptable, grade-level appropriate articles from a wide range of news media outlets.

Westport Public Schools is proud to announce that Faith Sweeney has been selected to receive the Connecticut Education Association’s Mahatma Gandhi-Martin Luther King Jr. Peace Award. The award recognizes an individual who has developed or implemented a program in a school or community that advances peace education, promotes cooperation, supports the peaceful resolution of conflict, and expands opportunities for students and educators.
