Grade Acceleration

Requests for grade acceleration can be made by Westport Public Schools staff or parents. Requests are reviewed by a school-based team. If the team accepts the request, a comprehensive evaluation will take place. The criteria for grade acceleration include:

a) A full-scale intelligence score of 145 with minimal subtest scatter, which would place the child in the top 1% of the population.

b) Measured academic performance is obtained in all academic areas comparable to the measured intelligence.

c) Demonstrates emotional maturity and social skills similar to those children entering the accelerated grade.

Decisions for grade acceleration are made by a Gifted Planning and Placement Team (PPT) meeting. Parents will be notified in writing of the PPT's recommendation. If you are interested in grade acceleration, please contact your building principal.
