Special Arts (Fall Session) (Friday, 3:15-4:15pm, Ages 7+)

This high-quality arts program is designed for students of differing and special needs who might need additional attention in the classroom. This class offers insight into artistic processes and techniques while promoting self-awareness and self-esteem through projects that foster critical thinking and creative innovation through adaptive methods.
When registering, please be sure to include a description of your child’s specific needs and any learning or behavioral techniques that work best for them. We can accommodate a limited number of parent-provided 1-on-1 aides for students who require one.

Skateboarding – American Originals (Ages 5 - 15)
It’s time to learn something new! Westport Parks and Recreation is teaming up with American Originals Skateboarding to offer a new and dynamic skateboarding program designed for children with special needs and challenges. This is a great opportunity for each participant to learn new skills and accomplish something they may have never thought they could! Through this program children will not only learn skateboarding skills, but will gain confidence, teamwork, and build friendships. Peer mentors and volunteers will be used to keep it moving and fun!
Dates - September 23 - October 28
Saturdays 1:00 - 2:00pm
Location: Compo Beach Skate Park
Notes: Children must have protective gear – elbow pads, kneepads, and helmet.
Inclement weather will cause the program to cancel for the day.
Inclusive Ice Skating: (Ages 5 - 13)
Come to the Westport PAL Rink at Longshore, learn to skate and have a great time outdoors! Instruction is designed for children who are challenged in both an individual and group setting. Coaches will provide instruction on the basic skills of skating and to make skating fun! Parents are encouraged to skate with their child to facilitate a positive experience and to aid them if necessary.

WESTPORT/WESTON FAMILY Y PROGRAMS
Please keep your eye out for Music & TheaterWorks. These are two new programs we’re running in the fall through a partnership with Arts For Healing out of New Canaan. They will be sending art & music therapists to our Y for these programs. If they are successful, we will be incorporating them into our offering each session moving forward.
We are in need of unified partners in basketball. If you’re interested in coming back or know of other families who are looking to pitch in, please let me know and we will bring them into the team.
